Improving egg quality using the VDL CheckEgg

Cracks and (invisible) hairline cracks in the eggshell can result in serious financial losses on modern poultry farms. Research has found that reducing the force of collisions between eggs and eggs against hard materials can significantly reduce cracks in the eggshells. Decreasing the G-forces on the eggs from 40G to 20G or lower can reduce the number of cracks by a factor 10.*

So what does it do?

The VDL CheckEgg can be used to measure the G-forces on eggs in your egg flow. Its design resembles the shape and weight of a real egg to ensure these measurements are accurate. The egg measures the changes in speed of the egg in G-forces; the higher the G-force, the higher the chance on hairline cracks. By measuring the forces on the eggs, you can determine where bottlenecks in your egg flow are located. Adjusting them correctly will decrease cracks and improve egg quality!
